Eyes Wide Open

I am wide awake. Some of my alertness is probably a result of the addy (well most of it), but some of it is from this appellate brief. I am wildly getting into it. It's like a puzzle, a puzzle where I get to argue.
It's actually kind of fun to take the facts from analogous and distinguishing cases and apply them to the facts of my case. Then I get to analyze why the other side and lower court is wrong-I am super good at pointing out why things are wrong. Furthermore, shaping my argument so that it sounds passionate, but removed enough to be legit feels so professional. And by representing the defendant I get to sit on my high horse and remind everyone of the importance of people's 4th Amendment rights.
Every word choice is pivotal. We took an hour to write two sentences and I don't even mind.

It's rewarding to be so into this, it means that I may be really onto something here with this law school thing.
There is a caveat though, it's fun now with all the cases and information in front of me, but I can't forget the hell of research. What are the chances of getting a law clerk as a starting attorney?

Trojan 36

Whoever this person is, thank you for leaving your wireless unprotected. Now I can lay in bed and be even less productive then when I'm normally here.
I am so proud of myself. Today in contracts I noticed that my MacBook was losing power fast. At 85% it said I only had an hour and 20 minutes left when I would normally have around 5 and a half hours. Naturally I started to get heated. I only got this MacBook in June and take pretty good care of it-as much as I can using it most of my waking hours. I immediately started planning my trip to the apple store with my warranty and my fire-y negotiating skills ("this is bullshit, give me a new battery")
But as I was laying in bed I started to look for something to do instead of reading my civ pro supplement, I'm sure you can understand why, and the apple website came to mind. I went to support and read about power saving tips. Apparently having my Bluetooth on all the time was my problem. This is a very silly discovery since my phone and my laptop are not even connected.
So ta-da.
Also, in other news-I have been "conditionally" accepted to the summer abroad program. !!!!!!.
I could not be more excited. Assuming they don't take away my conditional acceptance, i.e. I don't fail this semester, I will be heading to Santander Spain at the end of May.
The program there is amazing, family law and LGBT issues, the city is deemed a "resort city" with castles and very Spain-y night life.
I honestly and in a very-un-American like attitude can not wait to get out of this country.
Getting around Europe is so easy once you are there, so my weekends and July are endless adventures waiting to be had.

If you are thinking of going to law school

Just stop now.
There are these devil assignments that make you question the steps you are taking in life. This semester we have to write an appellate brief, as opposed to last semester's memo, but before we can get started we have to make a research log. Sounds innocent enough. But it's not.
Everything about law school is initiation based. Hoop-jumping we call it.
-Well back in our day we had to search for information in books(sidenote: all this research can be done through Lexis or Westlaw now). The same books that every other first year student is trying to use. We should make all first years do that for the next 1000 years!-
This research log is a mere 60 points, yet to gain even half of those points it is required to do 20+hours of work. I have been working on this log for over a week now all day today and I'm not even close to being finished.
Plus throw in the competition of law school-you get book-hiding and book stealing.
Ah the beauty of trying to get ahead by cutting the rope after you've climbed your part of it.
On the bright side, I know where a lot of things in the library are now.

I want to hold them like they do in Texas please

Thanks to Jenny, I ran off to Vegas this weekend. and had so.much.fun.
These people I barely knew in our section were inviting people and I was all no, Jenny can't go and my other friends aren't going, plus they were leaving right after class, etc, etc. I was telling Jenny all this and she being her typical self just told me to get over it and go. Why not? She literally said "it's time to get out of your comfort zone" and when I realized how right she was, I decided to go.
I am so glad I did. I spent 3 nights getting drunk, partying, dancing, wandering around Vegas until 6 in the morning, and getting to know people that have been around me all year.
It was so liberating to just run off at the spur of the moment with people I didn't know.
Only in LA can you just drive on over to Vegas for the weekend. I am really starting to fall for this life.

I take it back

the weather sucks. It has been raining the past three days, all day. Very Missouri-like. Which I left! There was even a tornado warning here yesterday, which NEVER happens in SoCal. Everyone was so confused and freaked. I was just angry. wtf?
People here cancel plans because of the rain. Like people won't drive, travel, etc. It's all very entertaining and I like it.
I just wish they would cancel class.

I'm back

Obvi. The weather was so nice to come back to. There's no ice or snow. Or below freezing temps. Just 50s and 60s.
Mostly, nothing to report on. Just busy, busy, busy. Esp with another class. I don't mind though, because Criminal Law is immensely interesting and taught by a British man! I love his accent and sense of humor. That's why I love the British, other then being one half, their sense of humor. So dry and underhanded. Clever.
Throw that into Criminal Law and you've got yourself a class worth attending.

Baking

I tried making Blueberry Scones tonight because I love the ones from Starbucks and could eat them all the time(I like all scones actually, but these have drugs in them or something because some mornings I wake up craving them). The actual Starbucks recipe is no where to be found so I found one that claimed to be similar. Now, either I'm bad at baking (most likely answer) or the recipe is a lie. They were just not what I wanted. The dough came out more soft then flaky and they weren't as sweet as I wanted. My mom liked them how they were, but I came out of her womb so she is slightly biased. My dad ate two, but it was because he was hungry and they were out. When I called him out on this he admitted it was true, but also said if they were awful he wouldn't eat them at all. I was not happy with them, but at least they will be consumed.

I do not enjoy cooking. I'm not exactly opposed to it, but when I am doing it there is no joy or passion. It's just another process. This tells me that I am not meant to go into cooking or baking of any kind. I already knew this, but it's kind of like tasting something you hated as a kid to make sure you still hate it. Like soda or anything orange cream flavored.
My mom thinks cooking will grow on me. She also says that about red wine, but do you ever see me with a glass of wine in my hand? No.
It must just be that I am not meant to enjoy the finer things in life.
